"Circuit Center"
Take Stuff Apart Day
At a private residence in Annandale

This event is for kids old enough to wield real tools.

Coming or interested? Click here.

We have a small social group for gifted kids in the Northern VA area. No "definitions" -- no "proof" of any kind required. If your kid(s) need to be around other kids who like to talk philosophy, math, current events, cult-classics, etc., you might be having trouble finding them peers.

We are not an academic group. The goal is to help our "statistically insignificant" kids meet others who are as sensitive, intense, and persistent as they are, and to have a good time together.

Monday, September 11, from 1:45-3:45 p.m.

Take Stuff Apart Day

We know our kids love to know how things work!

Bring your broken appliances, electronic gadgets, and well marked tools, and join in a grand day of taking things apart.

You do NOT need to bring your own thing to take apart, some will definitely be supplied. Any electronics that are not safe for children to take apart, will not be allowed at this event (like computers and monitors/TV screens). But you should bring your own screw drivers (flat and Philips) and your own pliers (regular or needle nosed) and if you have it, a set of tiny screw drivers.

Mark your tools with permanent marker, or tape if you want to make sure to get them all back at the end!

Magnets will be provided for holding little metal parts.

Take Stuff Apart Day
Learn About Motors!

We know our kids love to know how things work!

This time we have a non-working ride-on motor to take apart. Shulamit's husband, David, will be leading the day, and explaining what the parts are, and how they work together. If you are also knowledgeable in such things, he would love help. If your kids want to learn about such things, and enjoy taking apart something they can't possibly break ('cause it is already non-functional) come and join in a grand day of taking this thing apart, and learning.

This event is not for little kids, but if there are younger siblings that come with the older kids, parents will need to keep them occupied on the swings, at the creek, or whatnot. "Older" is defined as "old enough to know that gasoline is toxic, sharp things can cut you, and this old mower will have plenty of both kinds of dangers."

You do NOT need to bring your own thing to take apart.
We'll supply tools.

If you do bring your own, mark your tools with permanent marker, or tape if you want to make sure to get them all back at the end!

Just in time for Valentine's Day, it's...

SHAKESPEARE IN A BOX -- "The Taming of the Shrew"

No auditions! No rehearsals! No stage fright! You can even read your lines right off the script, because Shakespeare in a Box is just a parlor game, and it's strictly for fun. You don't even need much time -- the condensed script can be played in less than an hour.

The only thing we lack is between four and ten actors for the cast. If you'd like to join us for this activity on Sunday, Feb. 13, from 1:30-4:30 p.m., in Annandale , please RSVP ASAP to me, Jenny. If you would like me to mail you your copy of the playing script in advance, please also include your mailing address.

Bring the Bard home with a literary twist on parlor games -- a host-your-own Shakespeare play, where we fill the positions of director, actors, crew, and audience, supplying everything from stormy sound effects to rousing applause.

Adapting one of Shakespeare's best-known, best-loved works -- The Taming of the Shrew -- "Shakespeare in a Box" provides a complete kit for producing and acting out a rollicking 45-minute version of the comedy: clear directions on how to cast and direct; essential props; and ten cleverly abridged scripts. Just add willing participants (minimum of four participants, with up to 10 speaking parts, plus crew). It is entertainment most excellent.

Looking forward to seeing you again soon!
